“Take your bow and a quiver full of arrows, and go out into the open country to hunt some wild game for me.” - Genesis 27:3

general policies for all programs

Our aim is to provide safe, fun, life enhancing programs. To do that, everyone needs to know what is expected. IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU READ ALL THESE GENERAL POLICIES BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR ONE OF OUR PROGRAMS. Contact us, at AbleShotInc@gmail.com, if you have any questions.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

– Because you must provide protected information, you may only apply for yourself. If you need help filling out the application, you may have someone else fill it out, but YOU must sign the release of information on the form.

– Carefully read all these General Policies then click the appropriate APPLICATION link at the bottom of this page.

– Fill out application completely, with as much detail as possible, and submit. (NOTE: since some application questions are protected under HIPAA laws, all applications will be securely received and reviewed by the AbleShot President or Business Director. After being assigned a number, and removing any personally identifying information, copies of the application will be provided to the selection committee.)

– Applications will be reviewed by the selection committee and the first round of selections will be made.

– Those selected in the first round will be notified and will have seven days to schedule a phone call meeting with the selection committee. Date options will be discussed during the phone call and other pertinent information will be given. These meetings must be attended.

– After all the interviews are complete, the selection committee will make their final decisions and notify those who were selected.

– IF YOU ARE SELECTED YOU MUST NOTIFY ABLESHOT, WITHIN SEVEN DAYS OF RECEIVING YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER, AS TO YOUR INTENT TO ATTEND THE PROGRAM YOU WERE SELECTED FOR, OR NOT. FAILURE TO NOTIFY ABLESHOT WITHIN SEVEN DAYS, WILL RESULT IN YOU BEING REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM.  You can contact AbleShot at AbleShotInc@gmail.com or any other way stated on acceptance letter.

– YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER PACKET WILL INCLUDE WAIVERS THAT MUST BE READ, SIGNED, AND RETURNED TO ABLESHOT WITHING SEVEN DAYS OF RECEIVING YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER. IF ALL WAIVERS ARE NOT SIGNED AND RETURNED WITHIN THE SEVEN DAYS, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM.

– Once you have confirmed your participation in the program, additional information will be collected from you so travel and lodging arrangements, licenses, and any other logistics, can be secured. All details will be shared with you as they are secured. AbleShot will retain all original documents unless they are required by you to travel.

– If you are accepted for a program, you will need to wait two years to apply again for any of AbleShot’s programs.

AGE REQUIREMENTS

The minimum age requirement for our Youth Programs is 10 years of age.  Adult programs are for individuals 18 years of age and older.

LOCATION REQUIREMENTS

For now, our programs are only open to residents of the 48 states of the continuous United States. Hawaii and Alaska residents may be added in the future.

DRUGS, ALCOHOL, AND SMOKING

There will be no drug use allowed in any of our programs, legal or not, unless the drugs are prescribed specifically for you by a licensed physician. All prescribed drugs must be brought in their original packaging. Over the counter medication may be brought in its original packaging. All medication must be used only as prescribed or directed. USE OF ANY DRUGS IN A MANNER NOT PRESCRIBED OR DIRECTED, WILL RESULT IN CONFISCATION OF THE DRUGS AND IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF THE PERSON(S) FROM THE PROGRAM, WITHOUT ANY COMPENSATION, AND ANY FUTURE APPLICATION THE PERSON(S) MAKES TO ANY OF ABLESHOT’S PROGRAMS WILL BE DENIED. IN ADDITION, USE OF ANY ILLEGAL DRUGS WILL BE REPORTED TO THE AUTHORITIES. IF AUTHORITIES ARREST YOU AND CAN NOT, OR WILL NOT, TRANSPORT YOUR PERSONAL POSSESSIONS WITH YOU, YOU WILL PAY ABLESHOT TO HAVE THEM RETURNED TO YOU. IF ABLESHOT DOES NOT RECEIVE REQUESTED PAYMENT WITHIN TEN DAYS OF THE REQUEST, YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS WILL BE DONATED OR DESTROYED WITH NO COMPENSATION TO YOU. FURTHERMORE, ALTHOUGH REASONABLE CARE WILL BE TAKEN, ABLESHOT, ITS EMPLOYEES, AND VOLUNTEERS, WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SECURITY OF THE PERSONAL ITEMS. IF THEY ARE LOST, STOLEN, OR DESTROYED, THERE WILL BE NO COMPENSATION TO YOU.

There will be no alcohol use during any AbleShot Program.  IF ANYONE IS FOUND CONSUMING ALCOHOL OR WITH ALCOHOL IN THEIR POSSESSION, THEY WILL BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM WITHOUT ANY COMPENSATION AND ANY FUTURE APPLICATION THE PERSON(S) MAKES TO ANY OF ABLESHOT’S PROGRAMS WILL BE DENIED.

Smoking may or may not be allowed in our programs. Remember, you are in search of wild animals. The unnatural scent of tobacco may drive them away. Smoking, nor vaping, will not be allowed during an active hunt. In any case, smoking and vaping will only be allowed outside in a designated location. Because smoking can be a fire danger, no one may smoke if the program manager determines it is unsafe, even if smoking was originally allowed at the program. THE PROGRAM MANAGER WILL HAVE FINAL SAY OVER ANY AND ALL SMOKING. ANYONE NOT FOLLOWING THEIR DIRECTIVE WILL BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM WITHOUT ANY COMPENSATION AND ANY FUTURE APPLICATION THAT PERSON MAKES TO ANY OF ABLESHOT’S PROGRAMS WILL BE DENIED. ANY DAMAGE CAUSED BY YOU SMOKING WILL BE REPAIRED, REPLACED, OR COMPENSTED FOR BY YOU WITH NO LIABILITY TO ABLESHOT. If you know you cannot go without smoking for the duration of the program you wish to apply for, contact us before applying to see if accommodation can be made to ensure you will be able to smoke. Vaping will be allowed outside, in a designated area, if the no drugs rule is being followed and you are not on an active hunt.

FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Because our programs are outside, mostly in the wilderness, it is important to regulate what food and beverages are on site. Each program will have its own set of rules, provided with your acceptance letter, as to what can and cannot be brought for the safety of everyone. You must follow those rules. If you have dietary restrictions and/or allergies, please let us know on your application. Most, if not all, of the food and drinks in our programs will be provided as part of the program so you will not need to bring your own. IF YOU DO BRING FOOD AND/OR BEVERAGES, AND IT WAS ON THE LIST OF THINGS NOT TO BRING, IT WILL BE TAKEN FROM YOU, WITHOUT COMPENSATION, AND NOT RETURNED. THE PROGRAM MANAGER MAY DO WITH IT WHAT THEY DEEM APPROPRIATE INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, USE IT IN THE PROGRAM OR THROW IT AWAY.

UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR

Outdoor activities have inherent risks to them. We want to minimize those risks and require certain behavior from our clients to do so. Specifically, there will be no degrading or derogatory comments towards others, no aggressive behavior or language, no careless actions, no roughhousing, and no disregard for the program manager or volunteers. In general, you will follow the direction of the program manager or volunteers. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS OF THE PROGRAM MANAGER, AND/OR THE VOLUNTEERS, YOU WILL BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM WITHOUT COMPENSATION AND ANY FUTURE APPLICATION THAT PERSON MAKES, TO ANY OF ABLESHOT’S PROGRAMS, WILL BE DENIED. IN ADDITION, IF ANY ACTION HAS CAUSED, OR MAY HAVE CAUSED, HARM TO ANOTHER PERSON, OR WAS ILLEGAL IN ANY WAY, AUTHORITIES WILL BE CALLED TO REMOVE THE PERSON FROM THE PROGRAM. IF AUTHORITIES CAN NOT, OR WILL NOT, TRANSPORT YOUR PERSONAL POSSESSIONS WITH YOU, YOU WILL PAY ABLESHOT TO HAVE THEM RETURNED TO YOU.

ELECTRONICS

AbleShot provides their programs to help individuals experience self-discovery and growth. We want participants to be in the moment, enjoying nature and those around them. Because of that, we ask that no electronics be brought with those experiencing our programs. IF CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONICS ARE BROUGHT WITH YOU TO USE DURING TRAVEL, THEY WILL BE SELF-SURRENDERED UPON ARRIVAL, KEPT IN AN EASILY ACCESSIBLE LOCATION, AND RETURNED WHEN YOU LEAVE. ALTHOUGH THE PROGRAM MANAGER WILL DO THEIR BEST TO KEEP THE CELL PHONES SECURE, THEY ARE NOT, NOR IS ABLESHOT, RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF THE CELL PHONES, NOR ANY OTHER ELECTRONICS YOU BROUGHT ALONG. You will be provided with a phone number and/or email so others can contact you in case of an emergency. Remember, many of our programs are done in the wilderness where there is no phone service so there is no guarantee you will be able to be reached, even in the case of an emergency.

ACCOMODATIONS

Each program has different challenges and accommodations. The following will be discussed during the initial phone call: type of lodging you can expect, if there will be electricity and/or running water, if bathrooms or outhouses are available, if the facilities are wheelchair accessible, if there are showers, activity level and terrain you will be traversing.

AbleShot wishes to be able to make accommodation so everyone can participate in our programs, however, this isn’t always possible. Some of our programs make it easier to accommodate special needs than others. We want you to stretch beyond your comfort zone, so don’t rule something out just because you’ve never done anything like it.  A variety of options can be discussed during the initial phone call if it is found that one program is not a good fit for you. If you have questions, please reach out to us. We will do all we can to help fit you to an appropriate program.

ASSISTANCE

While our program managers may be able to help you with some basic assistance, they are not trained aides. If you are unable to accomplish your daily needs on your own, but would still like to apply to our program, you are welcome to bring an aide. Because of space, and cost, only one aide will be allowed per person. If you need an aide, you must provide, upon acceptance into a program, a licensed doctor’s letter verifying your need for the aide and, in general, what we can expect them to help you with. IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE THE VERIFICATION LETTER WITH THE REST OF YOUR ACCEPTANCE DOCUMENTS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BRING AN AIDE AND/OR YOU MAY NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM.

CANCELLATIONS

Once you accept your position in a program, AbleShot will be spending time and money preparing for your experience. You will be taking one of a very few spots available for that program and many of the details, once made, cannot be transferred to another person. Because of this, we expect that you will follow through with attending the program. ONCE YOU HAVE SENT US YOUR ACCEPTANCE LETTER, IF YOU CANCEL, OR DON’T SHOW UP FOR YOUR SCHEDULED TRANSPORTATION TO THE PROGRAM, UNLESS YOU, OR AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER, HAVE A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, VERIFIED IN WRITING BY A LICENSED PHYSICIAN, OR YOU, OR AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER, HAS DIED, YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE CURRENT PROGRAM AND DENIED ANY FUTURE PROGRAMS.

If you, or an immediate family member, have a verified medical emergency, or death, please contact AbleShot and/or your program manager as soon as possible so we can try to fill your spot or recover any costs possible. You will not be responsible for any unrecovered costs that AbleShot paid, however, AbleShot will not reimburse you for any expenses you may have paid. While you can reapply for a program in the future, we cannot guarantee you will be accepted again. Having had to cancel attending will not be a factor in the selection process but you will not have to wait two years to reapply, you can reapply for the next program you desire to attend.

If AbleShot must cancel a program you have been selected to attend, either before or during the program, you will not be responsible for any expenses AbleShot has incurred and AbleShot will reimburse you for any expenses you incurred if they were expressly requested you incur them by AbleShot. Those expenses could include, but are not limited to, items such as specialized clothing or footwear, a hunting or fishing license, or a special water bottle.  Some expenses AbleShot will not reimburse you for may include, but are not limited to, daily clothing, daily footwear, specialty items not required by AbleShot, food purchased for the trip, any items not in new condition.

Additionally, if AbleShot must cancel a program you have been selected to attend, either before or during the program, you are able to reapply for any of our programs. While we cannot guarantee acceptance into another program, it will be noted on your application that we had to cancel a prior program and you will get higher consideration. You do not have to wait two years to reapply, you can reapply for the next program you desire to attend.

PRIVACY POLICY

Unlike this General Policy, the Privacy Policy is not mandatory to read before filling out an application, but we highly recommend it. You will be held accountable for knowing, and abiding by, any information it contains.
